Geomorphology Study
A study entitled Recent Geomorphologic Evolution of the Bouctouche
Spit (1945-1999) was initiated in 1999 by a masters student
in Environmental Studies at the Université de Moncton.
Objectives:
- Explain the processes involved in the changes observed.
- Estimate the sediment budget of the spits sediment cell
Preliminary Results
Once the major changes were sketched on maps, certain aspects of the dynamics
of geomorphological evolution are evident :
- There are cycles of opening and closing of breaches in the median
and proximal areas of the spit
- There is formation of overwash areas in the proximal end of the spit.
- There is migration of pre-litoral sand bars and accretion on beaches
at the distal end of the spit.
