When opening the park in 1992, Mr. J.K. Irving said that this gift of the Irving family was dedicated "for the enjoyment of the people of New Brunswick". Among the 165,000 people who visited the park in 1997 many came from areas far beyond New Brunswick. There is no charge to visit the park or to use its resources.
