Irving Discovery Institute
The Irving Forest Discovery Institute at the Maritime Forestry Complex in Fredericton (July 20 to July 25, ‘97) was attended by 135 educators, largely teachers from grades 6 to 12 in New Brunswick’s anglophone and francophone school systems and teachers from Nova Scotia. Community colleges in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia sent delegates. Two educators arrived from Maine.

Deborah Fisher returns to classroom
The zoo lady is back! At Hillcrest School in Moncton, teacher Deborah Fisher used to be familiar to students as the person who ran educational projects with the Magnetic Hill Zoo, and did some neat environmental projects with her classes.

Opening of Irving Eco-Centre, La Dune de Bouctouche
The IRVING ECO-CENTRE La dune de Bouctouche was developed by J. D. Irving, Limited to preserve and restore one of the few remaining great sand dunes on the northeastern coastline of North America.

IFDN - What's Hot!
Since the Irving Forest Discovery Network (ifdn) swung onto the web last February, more features have been added.

NBCC tours
Last October J.D. Irving, Limited’s Human Resources department invited representatives from the New Brunswick Community Colleges on a two day tour of Irving operations around New Brunswick.

Hampton High kids
The multi-phase, long term educational partnership program that began in 1993 between Hampton High School and Irving Pulp & Paper mill (IPP) has entered into a new project.

Conference Board of Canada award
In May, at its national conference in Calgary, the Conference Board of Canada recognized with its prestigious Royal Bank “Partners in Education” Award the educational partnership of the New Brunswick Dept. of Education, the 18 New Brunswick school districts, and J.D. Irving, Limited.
