Partnership Wins!
This springtime activity (May-June) at the Irving Eco-Centre is aimed mainly at school children from grades 4 to 6 . The 2-3 hour workshop (depending on the time available) is composed of 3 different activities.

Maritime High School Students tested by America’s Largest Environmental Competition
A close-knit team of Digby Regional High School (DRHS) students competed at the Canon Envirothon in July in Arcata, California against 45 teams from the United States and Canada. J.D. Irving, Limited is pleased to have assisted the Nova Scotia winners with $2000 towards their trip.

Historic New France, an Irving Unique Area, becomes a Park
Langford Lake, NS ....New France Historic Park opened this summer deep in Irving woodlands on a protected Irving Unique Area site between the Silver River and Langford Lake.

One of Canada’s Top Businesses for Youth Employment
In May 1999 J.D. Irving, Limited was proud to be named one of Canada’s Top Youth Employers by the Conference Board of Canada. The company’s Human Resources group that manages employment for all its business units was applauded for its pro-active program to attract youth and to encourage their career development.

Irving Woodlands Pursue Green Certifications
Almost five years ago Irving Woodlands welcomed a team of independent scientists with over 60 years of combined experience. Over the next four years, rigorous audits and tests were conducted on our woodlands to ensure that we were focused on three critical objectives:
1. Environmental stewardship
2. Sustainable forestry
3. Socio-economic benefit to the communities where we live and work.

First Butterfly Count!
The Irving Eco-Centre in Bouctouche, NB, held its "first ever" Butterfly Count on Canada Day 1999, as part of the North American Butterfly Association's annual gathering of data.
