Envirothon New Brunswick
Envirothon is an environmental competition for high school students that tests their theoretical and practical knowledge of five areas of the environment: aquatics, soils, forestry, wildlife and a current issue that changes yearly. For 2001 the current issue was urban non-point source pollution.

ifdn Partnership Wins Conference Board of Canada Award
In May 2001 the Conference Board of Canada recognized the New Brunswick Department of Education and J.D. Irving, Limited’s ‘Partnership in Education’ with the Royal Bank’s award for the Irving Forest Discovery Network (www.ifdn.com).

Walking the Talk in Forestry/Forest Products
The 30 educators on the 2001 Atlantic Teachers’ Forestry Tour claimed it was a success. This annual forestry education event, rotated around different Atlantic provinces, was arranged for 2001 in Miramichi by the New Brunswick Forest Products Association.

Envirothon in Mississippi
Debbie Totten, Envirothon Canada’s board member for the Atlantic region and Envirothon coordinator for Nova Scotia, arrived in Augusta, Mississippi with PEI’s Envirothon team from Bluefield Senior High school in North Wiltshire.

Continuing Educational Commitments to Forestry and the Environment
Forest Discovery Box
This summer we were proud to have our partnership’s first project, the Forest Discovery Box, showcased to educators in Atlantic Canada at the Canadian Woodlands Forum.

Envirothon
Our most recent educational commitment has been to support Envirothon in the Maritimes.

Irving Naure Parks
The two Irving Nature Parks, created and managed by J.D. Irving, Limited with a primary goal of providing environmental education to New Brunswick students, continue to give class tours by appointment during the fall and spring.
