Bringing on Biodiversity

Discover the variety of living things in your Outdoor classroom. Give each student or group of students a task to complete from a partial list below. They are not to disturb or gather any of the items listed in their task, but should note where they found it, or illustrate and describe it in their field studies notebook, and perhaps show the rest of the group their findings.

Because we are looking for biodiversity within species and within an ecosystem, the possibilities are endless!

Possible tasks: (you can choose the number of items you wish)

• find a # of different species of trees
• find a # of different species of insects
• find a # of different species of fungus
• find a # of different sized leaves, etc. on the same plant
• find a # of different shapes/colours, etc. of plants, flowers, etc.
