Scavenger Hunts

Scavenger hunts can be done in a variety of ways - each time you take your students to their outdoor classroom, there should be a definite focus for the day.

On a scavenger hunt, the purpose is to look for something using at least one of your senses. In some cases things will be left as is, while in a few cases readily available materials such as leaves and cones could be collected.

Possible themes:

  • Alphabet hunt - try to discover at least one item in your Outdoor Classroom which begins with a different letter of the alphabet
  • Colour/ Shape Hunt - choose a particular colour or shape and list as many things as you can that match
  • Rough / Smooth etc.
  • Living or Dead Things/ Non-Living Things
  • Biotic / Abiotic
