The Health and Safety Coordinator at Scierie Grande-Rivière is responsible for ensuring every area of the mill is a safe and healthy working environment. This position requires a diploma in Health & Safety in the Workplace from a community college. As part of his continuous job training he has taken a number of courses through the Workplace Health and Safety Commission on how to conduct safety inspections and how to create safe working conditions. It is his responsibility to see the employees are educated about the safe operation of all machinery. All employees receive approximately 20 hours of training every year to upgrade their skills. One of his most important roles is implementing the Risk Management Program. He coordinates this program for each department. Since the inception of the program at the sawmill, the number of accidents has been reduced.
