The Quality Control Manager, a university-trained industrial engineer, at Scierie Grande-Rivière was responsible for the mill achieving the ISO 9002 international quality standard. The objective of the program is to continuously improve the quality of the final product and to guarantee customers that the mill will consistently provide them with a quality product. The Quality Control Manager is in charge of overseeing the program. He ensures that the ISO 9002 procedures as outlined in the manual are understood and followed by all mill employees. One of his major responsibilities at the sawmill is programming the optimizers so that they will recover the maximum amount of lumber from each log. The better optimized each log is, the better the yield of lumber. As an industrial engineer he is also responsible for helping the employees see how to make their jobs more profitable and interesting. His recommendations help management justify the purchase of new equipment. |
