 A Mechanical Engineer works on special projects to improve the processes throughout the mill. This job at the sawmill involves the installation and maintenance of the machinery. Often the engineer is required to devise creative production solutions to technical difficulties or to new technology. The workers may be unsure of the new technology, so the solutions must prove themselves. When a third production line was installed at the sawmill, all the design and manufacturing took place on site, and the engineer managed the entire process. Management skills are important in this job as the engineer often has a large team working on each project. This position involves continuous-on-the-job learning after a five year university engineering degree. |
