Shipping Supervisor
Once the lumber leaves the sawmill the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for seeing the lumber is transported to the drying kiln where it is separated by species and placed in stacks ready to enter the kiln. When the lumber is wrapped and ready for shipping the Shipping Supervisor again takes charge. He arranges where each stack will be shipped and oversees the loading into the appropriate trucks or rail cars. Each month over 400 trucks, an equivalent of 80 rail cars full of lumber, are shipped from Scierie Grande-Rivière. This lumber is transported to customers in the United States, Canada, Europe and Puerto Rico. Employees who work in the shipping department must have a high school diploma. They receive on-the-job-training as a shipper. A transportation course from a community college is recommended.
