The cants are scanned and optimized by being passed through electronic scanners that note the physical attributes of each log) before going through a bull edger. This machine has equally spaced saws which saw the cant into rough lumber, such as 2x4, 2x6, 2x8 or other sizes.
The edger uses the scanned information to position the cant for the optimum or best ways to cut to gain the most value from the cant. With its thin saws, the bull edger is very efficient and produces little waste.
