Water Temperature Monitoring

Instruments designed to automatically record water temperatures monitor the rivers and streams flowing through Irving woodlands. This information is valuable to fisheries biologists as they assess the suitability of the water for trout or salmon, because these fish are very temperature sensitive. By knowing the water’s summer maximum and spring minimum temperatures, the Irving biologists learn which streams are able to provide good habitat for the salmonids in the summer and nurture the juveniles in the spring.
