| There are very few places where, in just an afternoon, you can explore a salt marsh, beautiful sandy beaches, rocky shores with tidal pools, rich upland forest and an emerging bog. This area is very rich in natural history. The park is on the edge of a saltmarsh that is a traditional feeding stop for migratory birds on their flight patterns between Northern American latitudes for summer and southern wintering grounds. | Over 250 species of birds have been seen at the park, more than two-thirds of all species in North America. In the fall shorebird migration, thousands of shorebirds can be observed on the beaches and mudflats. Many mammals can be seen at the park including red fox, red squirrel, porcupine and deer. One mammal of particular interest is the harbour seal. Seals congregate on offshore rocks in the park from late fall to early spring. Little is known about their migratory cycles | |||||||||
